About the Drug Discovery Bootcamp Workshop:

Join members of the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research training team for a hands on class in how to make a drug. This focused bootcamp offered on Saturday afternoon will provide you the tools to learn how industry experts design and manufacture the drugs of tomorrow. The phases of drug development including discovery, pre-clinical research and clinical testing will be discussed with a focus on the common roles that postdoctoral scholars can pursue in industry. Speakers will include NIBR experts in training scientists for careers in industry R&D. Space is limited to 50 participants and is tentatively scheduled for Saturday June 9th from 10-12pm.

About the Grant Writing: Writing Your Specific Aims Workshop:

A clear and well-structured set of specific aims is an essential part of a complete grant application package and provides the foundation for a convincing structure and flow of the remaining sections of the document. Postdocs may receive training on writing a manuscript or journal article, but are rarely asked to develop a comprehensive grant application until they apply for faculty positions. This workshop will guide participants through the process of refining the first draft of a typical grant proposal with a focus on the specific aims developed on the basis of preliminary data, previous publications and research interests. The goal of this workshop is to understand how setting clear aims provides a solid backbone for all sections of a grant application. Participants will be asked to upload a draft of their specific aims one week prior to the workshop. Following a brief overview describing the structure and best practices for writing specific aims, participants will work in groups of three to apply the best practices discussed and feedback from their peers to their own writing.Participants will work in groups to apply the best practices discussed to their own aims.

Participation is limited to 30 attendees and a draft of their specific aims must be submitted to here by May 18th at 5pm. Space is limited to 30 participants and is tentatively scheduled for Sunday June 10th from 10am-12pm.

About the Finding Your Dream Job in Indusry Workshop:

As most postdoctoral scholars choose careers beyond Academia, many early career researchers find themselves preparing resumes, preparing for interviews at companies and interacting with internal and external recruiters. Join former postdoctoral scholars now working in industry and recruiters for an interactive panel discussion on how to best prepare for industry interviews followed by a series of resume critiques by our expert recruiters. Share your resume here by June 1st at 5pm to have your resume reviewed by recruiters and be considered for a live (anonymized) resume critique. This workshop is tentatively scheduled for Sunday June 10th from 10am-12pm.

About the Strategic Research Plan Workshop:

A well thought out research plan is the key to designing a successful career in academic research. Postdocs and early career researchers can benefit particularly from considering their research plan prior to applying for grants and entering the job market. Early and iterative preparation will provide additional time to refine and improve innovative approaches and well-articulated significance. In this workshop, participants will learn strategies on designing a research strategy including significance, innovation and approaches and how to integrate these sections into a robust grant application including specific aims. To be provided specific feedback on your research plan from our panel, please upload your 1-3 page document here. Note: this workshop does not require an additional registration option, but uploading of your materials for review by our experts is highly recommended.
